This toolkit has been developed to support Faith, Sporting, Voluntary and other Community Organisations to understand and meet their requirements in relation to the safeguarding of children and adults at risk of abuse or neglect.

Child: Anyone under the age of 18.

Adult at risk: Someone aged 18 or over whose need for care or support means they are (or may be) unable to protect themselves from the risk of, or the experience of abuse or neglect.

The information in this toolkit reflects national requirements. At any time, advice and support can and should be sought from the relevant Safeguarding Team or LADO.

Note: The toolkit has not been designed to cover every eventuality or situation that your organisation may encounter. Neither does it provide detailed information about all of the additional requirements that may apply if your organisation is, for example, a charity or affiliated with a sporting body. When in doubt, always consult the relevant agency or body for guidance.
